Invicta Morris was formed in 1976 which makes this our 35th year. We were the first women’s Cotswold Morris side in Kent. The side takes its name from the Kentish motto and the kit colours of red and white and our prancing horse emblem are taken from the Kentish coat of arms.
We are based in the Sevenoaks area and during the summer months we dance at a variety of events and public houses throughout Kent. Our dancing season officially begins on May 1st with the Jack in the Green Awakening Ceremony at Blue Bell Hill. We join other dance teams to bring Jack to life at the crack of dawn, heralding the start of summer and the Rochester Sweeps Festival. |
The collections made during our performances help cover our running costs and we also make donations to local charities.
The side performs dances from the Cotswold Morris tradition. We also dance our own tradition “Ightham”, named after a small village near Sevenoaks where the side first practiced. Within this tradition we have created a number of our own dances, such as Laura and The Hopbine. We are continuing to develop new dances to add to our repertoire.
If you would like to join us talk to any of the dancers after the performance or contact us on the number below. You are also welcome to come along to our first practice at 8.30 pm on Monday 03 October 2011. We practice in Otford Parish Hall opposite The Bull, through to April.
If you are interested in joining or booking us for your event please Phone the secretary Jenny Healthfield 01322 272168 or Email us at secretary@invictamorris.org.uk
